Cabaret (1972) movie poster

Because now is a good time to talk about fascism.

This musical takes place in Berlin, 1931, which was probably the most permissive city in the world at the time, with a citizenry protected by the most enlightened constitution. Two years later, democracy would be dead, killed when Hitler seized absolute power through legal means, kicking off the bloodiest 12 years in human history. But right up to that moment, the champagne corks kept popping because there’s no denying the power of denial .

They say history doesn’t repeat but it does rhyme. And in the case of Cabaret, it also sings and dances.
