Godzilla (1954)

Before he was a pop culture icon, mascot, or action figure, Godzilla was a scream of horror —a radioactive nightmare born from nuclear devastation and the terrifying realization that humanity had crossed a line of barbarity we could never return from. On Hiroshima Day, we’re remembering the original monster: angry, mournful, unstoppable, and deeply political. This isn’t an exercise in nostalgia. It’s a reminder that the most horrifying monsters are the ones born from human fuck-ups. Loud, black-and-white, apocalyptic, and still capable of rattling your bones more than seventy years later, the original Godzilla remains one of the most punk films ever made, a furious act of cinematic protest in the shape of a monster movie.
